Museum of Dartmoor Life
The museum of Dartmoor Life is located in Okehampton, Devon. It is located within a three-story former Warehouse mill which was originally used for domestic and industrial purposes. The mill houses the museum and the other buildings in the courtyard are a Victorian tea room and a tourist information centre.
What can you do at the Museum of Dartmoor Life?
It is a small museum with a lot of information about the local area. There are a number of displays and exhibits that take you through time. First opened in 1981 the museum still contains a waterwheel. The vast collection of objects spans 5,000 years of life on Dartmoor from the Bronze Age through to the mid-20th century.
There are a number of discovery zones and trails to help children explore the museum . Displays include a reconstructed Bronze Age hut, Victorian kitchens, a Blacksmith’s Forge, Wheelwrights workshop and more. Temporary exhibitions run throughout most of the year.
