Things to do at museum of Scottish Lighthouses review
The museum of Scottish Lighthouses is located by the sea in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. This was once a fine castle that was later turned into a lighthouse which was originally built for the Fraser family in the 1500s.
On the site there is what was the very first lighthouse on mainland Scotland, Kinnaird Head Lighthouse, there is Kinnaird Head Castle which contains the lighthouse and a purpose-built museum .
The museum tells the story of the Northern Lighthouse Board and the engineers who built the lights and the keepers who tend them. Families can dress up and try on their keeper’s uniform and there is a wide range of creative activities for children.
As well as the castle tower itself you can still see original features such as the old castle kitchens and elements of the grand hall. In the lighthouse, you can see their preserved keeper’s quarters that looks pretty much as it did in 1970 plus you can climb the steps to the top.
