Museum of Transport Greater Manchester

Museum of Transport Greater Manchester

The Museum of Transport Greater Manchester is situated in the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester. It is operated by a volunteer charity which is owned by Transport for Greater Manchester. Their aim is to preserve and promote the public transport heritage of Greater Manchester.

Museum Overview

There are over seventy buses and other vehicles on display. It is a ‘working’ museum in that as many vehicles as possible are maintained in full working order. This helps to give the museum the atmosphere of a bus garage of bygone eras.

There are several vehicles you can look inside but due to their fragile nature, not all are open to look inside. Vehicles often move around and not all of their collection is always on display. Vehicles include horse buses, tramways and light rail. Plus motor buses, privately owned buses, coaches, trolleybuses and more.

Other items on display include equipment, tickets, signs, tokens and more. The venue even runs heritage bus rides and themed events. Their bus rides take place on around 3-5 days each month.
