Museum Overview

The National Civil War Centre is a relatively new museum in Newark, Nottinghamshire. It is dedicated to the 17th Century English Civil War and features diverse exhibits and living history annual events.

The centre plunges you deep into the heart of Britain’s deadliest conflict. You will see stories of gunpowder, plague and plot through a series of fascinating galleries. You will uncover the causes of conflict. and consequences of the British civil wars. They even have an HD cinema where you will see defining moments of the 17th century. Kids will love all the dress-up and interactive displays. Plus they host some fantastic events, throughout the year including re-enactments and themed family days.

Outside of the museum, you can follow an augmented-reality experience that places you in the midst of a siege-torn town. High-quality film clips will be played on your smartphone or tablet as you follow a series of information boards in key locations. The trail starts at the centre and takes in Newark castle, St Mary Magdalene church and the historic Queen’s Sconce.
