Museum Overview
The National Museum of Flight is located on the East Fortune Airfield in North Berwick, East Lothian. It has a collection of over 50 aircraft and is Scotland’s national aviation museum.
The museum is housed in the original wartime buildings of RAF East Fortune which is a well-preserved World War II airfield. The entire site is a scheduled monument and the collections date back to 1909 when the first aircraft was collected by any museum in the UK.
Today the museum’s collection has expanded into one of the most important in the UK and covers all aspects of aviation including military, civil and recreational. There are three hands-on galleries where you can find out how aeroplanes fly, how they are built and the skills needed to be a pilot plus hangars full of aircraft and other related items.
The museum is home to Scotland’s only Concorde. You can climb aboard to discover what transatlantic flight was like for the passengers and crew and learn about the legacy of this iconic aircraft. There is a WWII-themed family trail that brings the stories of the museum’s historic site to life plus an outdoor assault course.
