Natural History Museum Tring

Museum Overview
The Natural History Museum at Tring is located in the centre of Tring, Hertfordshire. It houses one of the finest collections of stuffed mammals, birds, reptiles and insects in the UK. It was once the private museum of Lionel Walter, the 2nd Baron Rothschild and it is located on the grounds of the former Rothschild family home of Tring Park.
The building was constructed in 1889 to house his collection and was opened to the public in 1892. He was frequently seen riding a zebra-drawn carriage and he bred hybrids between zebras and horses, there is even a hybrid foal on display today.
The extensive collection is housed in several rooms and includes extinct animals including animals you can see today plus hybrids. There are over 4,900 specimens to see. One of the museum’s most famous exhibits is dressed fleas from Mexico.
