New Lanark World Heritage Site
The New Lanark World Heritage Site is located in Lanark, Lanarkshire. It was given the title of a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001. It is an exceptional example of a purpose-built 18th-century mill village.
They have a number of permanent and temporary exhibitions. One of the highlights is the Annie McLeod Experience. This is a ride where you will travel back in time and you will be taken on a fascinating journey of discovery by the ghost of mill worker Annie McLeod.
There are many houses to explore including Robert Owen’s the mill manager and a range of millworkers’ houses. Kids will enjoy seeing the historic classroom and the village store. Plus the 9,000 square feet roof garden which is the largest of its kind in Scotland. It provides you with a spectacular birds-eye view of the surrounding natural scenery and the historic village. On-site there are adventure play areas with a giant willow storytelling dome, a secret hideaway tree house, bug hotels and so much more. Their picnic site has even won several awards.
