Orford Castle

Orford Castle is an English Heritage property located in Orford, near Woodbridge, Suffolk. It was built between 1165 and 1173 by Henry II of England and it enjoys views over Orford Ness.

It is home to one of England’s most complete and unusual keeps with its unique polygonal tower. Visitors can explore from the basement, through the lower and upper halls to the roof. The rooms are a maze of passages leading to a chapel, kitchen and other chambers.

Make sure you enquire about their media tour as this is a great way of learning more about the castle. In the castle, there is the Orford Museum with displays of archaeological finds including rare coins, brooches and pottery.

Free for members of English Heritage. Peak prices are £10 for an adult, £5.90 for children aged 5-17, children aged under 5 are free and family tickets are available. Off-peak tickets are cheaper.
