Papplewick Pumping Station
Papplewick Pumping Station is located near Ravenshead, Nottinghamshire. The station was designed in the early 1880s to pump millions of clean fresh water every day to people in the local area.
What is there to do at Papplewick Pumping Station?
Today the pumping station has been preserved by a registered charity. You can visit and see the most spectacular preserved water pumping station in the UK. It is now protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
They hold regular steaming events throughout the year although their open days are very limited. Due to the site opening on a variety of event days means that there are often other things to see and do including a 1940s day, classic and vintage vehicles, classic motorcycles and more.
During steam events you can also go on one of their underground reservoir tours. These cost an additional £4 per adult and £1 per child. You must be moderately fit to go on the tour and there are two flights of stairs into and out of the reservoir.
The station is also open on Wednesdays and Sundays from April until late October for non-steam days. Admission to the grounds on non-steaming days is free and if you want to look around the pumping station it is via a guided tour which is £4 pp Ages 12+ and children aged under 12 are free.
