Pells Outdoor Swimming Pool

Pells Outdoor Swimming Pool is located in Lewes, Sussex. It is a public lido that is open in the summer months. They usually open in early May until the end of summer. The pool is spring-fed and the water is unheated. The swimming pool is 46 metres long by 23 metres wide. The original structure was built in 1960 making it the oldest freshwater outdoor public swimming bath in the UK that is still open.

It is a good idea to wear a wetsuit! They have cold water swimming advice on their website. There is also a paddling pool which can close if the water is too cold and children are not permitted to swim in the pool if the temperature drops below 15oC. The main sign to exit the water is if you feel your body cooling down and oddly it may feel quite warm.
