Pendon Museum

Pendon Museum

Museum Overview

Pendon Museum is an indoor model village and railway near Long Wittenham in Oxfordshire. The museum gives a glimpse of rural life in English around the 1930s through extraordinary dioramas featuring railways, villages and landscapes. The museum is mostly run by volunteers with various exhibits across 3 floors. The informative and interactive self-lead tour takes about 90 minutes.

Exhibits include a Vale Scene which is a large diorama based on accurately reproduced buildings and surroundings. It is based on the Vale of White Horse which is a rural area of Oxfordshire. The craftsmanship is truly outstanding.

The Dartmoor scene and seawall are an imaginary Great Western branch line. The viaduct is very impressive and the scene includes stations and station buildings. The Madder Valley railway dates from the 1930s and the trains themselves only run on a few select days each year. You can still view the diorama regardless of the trains running. The museum has a free, ‘I-Spy’ trail for kids that helps you explore the whole museum.
