Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway

The Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway is a 3.5-mile-long volunteer-run heritage railway in South Wales. The railway runs through the Blaenavon UNESCO World Heritage site on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

They run steam and heritage diesel services on weekends and bank holidays between, April and September plus selected Wednesdays in July and August. They also run special events, including Halloween ghost trains and Steam Santa specials.

A round trip takes approximately one hour. They recommend combining your visit to them with other attractions in the local area including the Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon Ironworks and more. There are four stops on the railway Furnace Sidings, Big Pit Halt, Blaenavon High Level and Whistle Inn Halt.

Adult first class £12, child first class 4-16 £6.00. Open carriage adult £11, child £5.50, under 4s, are free. Family tickets are available.

There is ample free car and coach parking available at Furnace Sidings, their main station.
