Potteric Carr Nature Reserve
Potteric Carr is a nature reserve located close to the centre of Doncaster in South Yorkshire. It is situated near a busy road and railway tracks making it hard to believe there is even a nature reserve here. The reserve is home to a large range of wetland birds and it is dotted with bird hides.
What can you do at Potteric Carr Nature Reserve?
When you arrive make sure you pick up a map as there are lots of different paths that you can follow and even with a map we still got a little lost. The reserve is now a small remnant of what was once a vast fenland that once stretched all the way across to the Humber basin and to the coast.
There is a rich variety of habitats and it really comes to life in the summer with butterflies and insects. You can enjoy bird watching from one of their hides and follow their story trail. You can join Spinny the Spider on their quest for a new home, meeting residents of Potteric Carr along the way. The centre hosts family-friendly activities including pond dipping and nature tots. You can also book guided walks.
