Priory Country Park
Priory Country Park is a park located in the Newnham area of Bedford in Bedfordshire. The park was officially opened in 1986 and it was established after gravel extraction ended in 1977. It is now a 360-acre green space made up of lakes, meadows and woodland.
What can you do at Priory Country Park?
There are habitats from meadows to reed beds, quiet walks for all, fishing, boating, play areas and bird hides. It is one of five Bedford Borough Council managed parks that have been awarded a Green Flag. The Green Flag scheme recognises quality parks and spaces around the world.
Fishing at the park is restricted and you will need a current Environment Agency rod licence. In some areas, you must also purchase a permit from Bedford Borough Council. There are three walking trails around the park. There are downloadable leaflets on their website for each of these. There is a red, green and blue trail of differing lengths.
The cafe benefits from views across the lake and includes a large area of elevated decking outside. The watersports on the lake are run by Viking Kayak Club. They are a club for canoeists and kayakers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
