Pugneys Country Park
Pugneys Country Park is located near the centre of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The park has a number of family-friendly facilities. There are plenty of open spaces to enjoy outdoor games, walking and cycling.
What is there to do at Pugneys Country Park?
There is a large lake with an accessible path all the way around it. They also hire bikes by the hour. You can also take a ride on Pugneys Light railway. This is operated by a team of volunteers and they are open to the public on most weekends and bank holidays,
There are plenty of ducks to feed at the lake and there are a couple of bird hides where you can have a go at bird spotting. There is an excellent free, Pirates Cove play area with plenty of nautical fun for the kids. The park also has a number of walking routes including a 1.6-mile circular walk. Or you can walk up to the historical site of Sandal Castle (approx. an extra 2 miles return).
You can also download the free, Love Exploring app to walk around the park and discover dinosaurs and fairies. The Blown Away Adventure Trail is great for all the family and is based on the story of the same name written by a local author. Fishing is also available if you have a rod licence and pedalos in the warmer months.
