Reading Museum is located in the centre of Reading, Berkshire. It is a museum that covers the history of the town and the surrounding area.
Based in the town hall in the centre of the town there are lots to see at this free museum. You can learn more about Reading Abbey, see their famous Victorian copy of the Bayeux Tapestry and the area’s natural history. There is a lovely Huntley and Palmers biscuit tin collection plus modern art and more. They have a range of permanent galleries plus temporary exhibitions. There are also often extra activities available including crafts.
Near to the museum, you can also visit the Abbey. There you can learn about its 900 years of history. They recommend visiting the museum first to learn about the abbey’s history and then explore the actual abbey itself. They also run regular walking tours of the Abbey Quarter.
