Royal Air Force Museum Midlands

Royal Air Force Museum Midlands, formerly known as RAF Museum Cosford, is located in Cosford, Shropshire. It is a free, museum that is dedicated to the history of aviation and the Royal Air Force.

What can you do at the Royal Air Force Museum Midlands?

There is plenty to see at the museum and in 2022 it won a large visitor attraction of the year award. There are hangars full of exhibits and due to their vast size, it is difficult to see everything in just one visit. Exhibits include a National Cold War exhibition, Text Flight and War in the Air with British, German and Japanese aircraft. In Hangar 1 you can see some of the largest and smallest machines flown by the RAF.

One of the highlights of a visit is being able to sit in the cockpit of a real Jet Provost. Plus you can see Bravo November, the RAF’s most famous helicopter. She has participated in every major conflict in the past 40 years.

Flight Zone is a new addition with VR, Simulators and 4D theatre shows. These all incur a charge. You can glide through the skies with their VR set or become a spitfire pilot. You can enjoy thrilling motion pictures with synchronized seat movements, water spray and smoke effects in their 4D cinema and experience the thrill of flying in their flight simulator.

It is a family-friendly place to visit and outside they have a wonderful plane-themed playground. This was installed quite recently and it is a wonderful addition to the museum. It features a mock control tower, a mini hangar and play aircraft to climb on-board.
