Museum Overview
The Royal Engineers Museum is located in Gillingham, Kent. It is Kent’s largest military museum and inside you can discover the story of the Royal Engineers and how they have helped the British Army live, move and fight for over 300 years.
Highlights include 25 Victoria crosses, Wellington’s map of Waterloo, Chard’s weapons from the Zulu war and an amazing collection of bridge-laying tanks. Plus Chinese silks, the world’s first guided torpedo, a huge piece of the Berlin Wall, a Zulu shield, a Harrier jump jet and a deadly B2 rocket.
For families there is a Snob the Dog trail, dressing up activities plus hands-on and digital interactives. They also have a First World War play tank outdoors which is made of wood. The collection is considered to be one of the most important military collections in the UK. They also run extra events throughout the year.
