RSPB Rathlin West Light Seabird Centre
RSPB Rathlin West Light Seabird Centre is a nature reserve located at Rathlin Island near Ballycastle in County Antrim. You can experience unrivalled views of Northern Ireland’s largest seabird colony which includes puffins, guillemots and razorbills.
You can also explore the century-old ‘upside down’ lighthouse and enjoy more breathtaking landscapes and wildlife along the Roonivoolin and Craigmacagan walking trails. Raithlin Island Ferry service operates from Ballycastle. Once you are on the island there are privately operated buses that run from Church Bay to the seabird centre, a bus far charge applies.
Children’s binoculars are available and there is a child-friendly assisted telescope. From the visitor centre, it is a short scenic walk and 98 steps down to the viewing platform. If you want to visit the lighthouse there is a further 64 steps to the bottom of the lighthouse tower.

There are refreshments. You are welcome to picnic outdoors.

What are the ticket prices?
You will need to book your crossing and there is also a charge for a bus on the island. For the visitor centre, there is a £5 charge for adults and the first child is free, other children are £2.50.

Is there parking?
There is parking near the Ballycastle ferry terminal building.
When are they open?
The centre and lighthouse are open from mid-April until late September. For up-to-date opening times please visit their website.
Dog friendly?
Visitors arriving by bus can bring dogs to the site but only registered guide dogs are allowed within the Visitor Centre.
