Saffron Walden Museum
Museum Overview
The Saffron Walden Museum is located in Saffron Walden in Essex. It is located on the Walden Castle grounds and inside you can discover a world of hidden treasures in one of the country’s oldest local purpose-built museums.
The museum collections include Ancient Egypt, Archaeology, geology, social history, natural history and more. Items include stone axes, Samurai armour, spears and swords, there is even an Egyptian Mummy and a glove that was given away by Mary Queen of Scots on the eve of her execution.
Kids can have fun excavating in their archaeological sandpit, meet Wallace the Lion and explore the natural history discovery centre. There is a rolling programme of exhibitions, activities and events, throughout the year. You can also picnic in the grounds next to the ruins of the 12th-century Walden castle.
