Museum Overview

The Scottish Maritime Museum is located on Harbour Road in Irvine, Ayrshire. It is an award-winning industrial museum whose collection is recognised as being nationally significant to Scotland. The museum has a strong focus on Scotland’s shipbuilding heritage.

Inside you can explore Scotland’s ‘Cathedral of Engineering’ which is a vast area that was once the Linthouse shipyard building. There are some of Scotland’s more historic vessels to be seen including MV Spartan, Scotland’s last Scottish-built puffer. Plus the harbour tug Garnick and SY Carola a steam yacht that was built in 1989.

There are family-friendly interactive games and trails which change seasonally. They also have an activity trail which is a fun, interactive and learning experience perfect for exploring the museum. You can also book a 35-minute tour that includes the 1920 Shipyard worker’s tenement flat. The tour will show you what home life would have been like for a shipyard worker just after the turn of the century. There are limited spaces on each tour.

What are the ticket prices?

Adults are £8.50 and children are free for up to three children 3 years+ with each adult or concession ticket. With the tour included an adult ticket costs £10.50.

Thre is free parking is available in the museum  Courtyard on Harbour Road and the adjacent public car park.
