Sherborne Castle Gardens
Sherborne Castle Gardens are located in Sherborne, Dorset. You can visit the historic castle and walk through 400 years of history. There are also 42 acres of Capability Brown-designed gardens to explore.
What is there to do at Sherborne Castle Gardens?
The castle has been a family home since 1617 and was built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594. Inside you can discover magnificent staterooms, a Tudor kitchen and the family museum in the castle’s cellars. In here you can see family artefacts, fossils and archive displays.
The gardens were one of the first commissions of Capability Brown and they survive largely unaltered today. There are paths and trails that lead you through the gardens and pleasure grounds which enjoy some spectacular views.
There are two suggested walks. The Pleasure Grounds and fossil house walk takes around 50 minutes and the Thatched hut and Gingko lawn walk that takes around 45 minutes. If you combine both walks together you will see the whole garden. They host a number of family-friendly events throughout the year.
