Shipwreck Museum Hastings
The Shipwreck Museum in Hastings, Sussex is located in the historical old town. It has artefacts from many ships that have been wrecked in the English Channel. It is next door to the Hasting’s Fishermen’s Museum.
Museum Overview
They are a multi-sensory museum with sound, touch and smell. Items include those from the shipwreck of a Dutch East Indiaman of 1749 and the Anne of 1690 plus Charles II warship. They also have exhibits of fossils that have been found in the local area.
Inside you can touch a part of the wooden London Bridge from Roman times, sit on a dinosaur footprint and get up close to part of a Roman ship. Plus you can feel a perfectly-preserved 4,000-year-old Bronze Age tree, try your skills at tying a knot and more.
The museum also runs the occasional guided walk to see the wreck of the Dutch East Indiaman and you will explore the coastline. This costs £6 for adults and £2 for children.
