Museum Overview

Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery are located in the centre of Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The museum was founded in 1835 and today it is situated in the town square. There are five galleries dedicated to local history.

The museum cares for over 300,000 items from fossilised raindrops to Queen Victoria’s stockings. Most of their ‘wow’ objects are on display across their museum although not all will be displayed at one time. There are collections relating to social and industrial history, biology, natural science, archaeology, geology, fossils, decorative arts and more.

They also run a full programme of activities including courses, film showings, weekly toddler groups, holiday activities and one-off events, plus they have a temporary exhibition programme.
