Smithills Hall
Smithills Hall is a Grade I listed manor house and a scheduled monument located in Smithills, Greater Manchester. It is situated on the West Pennine Moors above Bolton. It is one of the oldest and best-preserved manor houses in the North West of England.
The hall is set in formal gardens and contains fine examples of architecture through the ages, from Medieval and Tudor right through to Victorian times. There is a 14-century chapel with Medieval stained glass and a stone supposedly bearing the footprint of a martyr which is said to ‘bleed’ once a year.
Guided tours of the house are available on request or you can explore at your own leisure. As well as various rooms you can look around there is also a permanent Timeline Exhibition. The gardens have two distinct parts with a formal terraced area and wooded grounds to the north and east.
