St Andrews West Sands Beach
St. Andrews is a lovely little town in Scotland, about an hour from Edinburgh by train, on the east coast of Scotland. It is famous for being the home of golf as well as for its University. However, did you know that the small town also has not 1 but 3 beautiful beaches? West Sands, East Sands and Castle Sands! The 3 beaches are only a few minutes walk from each other or to town. (You can park in town and easily walk to any of the beaches. There is no shortage of parking.)
The town is so small, you can see all 3 beaches in 1 day. You may even have seen West Sands in a famous movie: Chariots OF Fire! West Sands is almost 2 miles long and is located next to the famous golf course as well as the British Golf Museum. If you want to grab a bite, you can pop into the St. Andrews Hotel or walk 15 minutes to town, where there are several independent restaurants.
Alternatively, head over to East Sands, which is on the other side of town and next to the small St. Andrews harbour. The sand here is slightly less fine than West Sands, and the Beach has a more casual feel. From East Sands, you can even walk to the Fife Coastal Walk for better views.
