Stainmore Railway Company

Stainmore Railway Company in Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria is run by volunteers and it is a non-profit preservation company. Kirkby Stephen is a historic station with a steam railway. It first opened in 1861. Today it feels like time has stopped and you can enjoy the station as it would have been in the 1950s.

There are a number of historic Victorian and vintage locomotives, carriages and wagons to see. There is also a small museum to look around. They host a number of events throughout the year.

You can also enjoy a ride on a steam train, schedules are varied so do check their website before leaving home. They are slowly opening more and more of the line with an eventual aim of re-opening the line all the way to Stainmore. They also offer rides on their diesel trains.
