Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre
The Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre are located near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. This is a unique spot in the heart of the Pennine countryside and Standedge Tunnel is the longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel in Britain.
What is there to do at Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre?
Inside the visitor centre, there are displays that tell the story of the canal and the tunnel. Admission to the visitor centre is free. Outdoors there is a wooden child-friendly assault course. There is also a Tunnel Edge Reservoir Nature trail.
A highlight of a visit to Tunnel End is a boat ride into the tunnel. The boat trips start from Tunnel End cottages and go into the tunnel mouth, these trips last around 30 minutes. The boats have been specially designed with glass roof panels. You can also book on trips all the way through which cost £35 per person. There may be an age restriction in place on the boat trips.

Free – the visitor centre is free, to visit. There is a charge for day trips of £8 for an adult and £6 for children aged 0-15. Family tickets are £24.

The official car park is at Marsden train station – a 15-minute towpath walk to them. Charges may apply.
