Stanley Mills Perthshire

Stanley Mills Perthshire

Stanley Mills near Perth, Perthshire is a 200+-year-old mill that once used the power of the River Tay to produce textiles. It was built in the 1780s and today it is open to the public. Today it is one of the industrial revolution’s best-preserved relics. Its interactive displays tell the stories of the people who worked there and the products they made. The mill was altered many times throughout its working life and finally closed in 1989.

They have tried to make it as realistic as possible. Inside you can hear the clamour of the factory floor, see the machine that turned raw cotton into products that were exported around the globe and you can learn how the water power was harnessed.

On-site you can see Bell Mill which is one of the world’s oldest surviving factories and is largely unchanged. There is a fun fact-finding quiz to take part in while exploring the mill.
