Tamworth Castle
Tamworth Castle is a Grade I listed building in Tamworth, Staffordshire. It is a Norman castle that overlooks the River Anker. The site was the residence of Mercian kings in Anglo-Saxon times but fell into disuse during the Viking invasions. It was refortified by the Normans and later enlarged. Today it is one of the best-preserved motte-and-bailey castles in England.
What can you do at Tamworth Castle?
The castle spans more than 900 years of history and your visit will take you on a journey through time. There are 15 different rooms to explore each giving a glimpse into the castle’s past and how it has changed through the centuries. Rooms include bedrooms. a grand dining room, armoury and dungeon.
In the castle grounds, there is an adventure play area plus a crazy golf course and a skate park. The adventure playground was recently upgraded at a cost of £375,00. It is free to use and includes equipment for children up to the age of 14.
There are swings, slides, roundabouts, climbing frames, climbing walls and so much more. They also have accessible play equipment. You can also take a walk down to the river. Make sure you take some duck-friendly food as there are usually plenty within the castle grounds. The castle holds a number of family-friendly events.
