The D-Day Story
The D-Day Story is located near the aquarium in Portsmouth, Hampshire. It is a visitor attraction that tells the story of Operation Overlord during the Normandy D-Day landings. Children aged 6 and over and their adults will get the most out of visiting the museum.
You will discover the stories told through the personal accounts of people who were there. Their stories are brought to life through stunning audio-visual presentations and a number of iconic objects. Items include military equipment, uniforms, vehicles, photographs and more.
The collection brings to life the events, that led up to D-Day and what happened on the day itself. Operation Overlord delivered five naval assault divisions to the beaches, of Normandy in France. Despite tough odds and high casualties Allied forces ultimately won the battle and helped turn the tide of WWII toward victory against Hitler’s forces.
It is the only museum in the UK that is dedicated to the Allied Invasion in June 1944. The museum saw a major redevelopment project in 2018 which transformed it into an engaging insight into the lives of those who took part in D-Day. The last surviving Landing Craft Tank from D-Day is now open on Southsea Seafront and access is included as part of your museum ticket.
