The Holburne Museum

The Holburne Museum

Museum Overview

The Holburne Museum is located in the Bathwick area of Bath, Somerset. It can be found in the Sydney Pleasure Gardens and it is the city’s first public art gallery. At the heart of the museum, there is the collection of Sir William Holburne, the fifth baronet of Menstrie. He was quite the collector and he particularly loved bronze sculptures, silver, porcelain and Dutch landscapes. It was his wish that his collection be left to the City of Bath for everyone to enjoy.

Since his death, more than 2,000 items have been added to the collection including portrait miniatures, porcelain, embroideries and portraits by some of the greatest artists of the 18th century. For children, there are activity drawers throughout the extensive galleries. They also offer activity trails aimed at children and families at different times of the year. Plus they run workshops during school holidays.
