The Salmon Bothy

The Salmon Bothy

The Salmon Bothy is located in Portsoy, Aberdeenshire. It is a former working Salmon house that has been lovingly restored and is now home to a museum.

The Bothy was originally built in 1834 and is a superb example of a salmon house with working and living accommodations. The museum showcases displays, artefacts and information about the harbours at Portsoy. It looks at the salmon trade and salmon fishing operations.

The Salmon Bothy is free to visit and is run entirely by a group of volunteers. All costs are met through donations and venue hire. The sleeping quarters remain as it was when it was in use with bunk beds and other notable items. You can also learn about the life cycle of a salmon.
