Torre Abbey
Torre Abbey is located near the beach in Torquay, Devon. Founded in 1196 as a monastery today it is a museum of history and art housed within an Ancient Scheduled Monument.
What is there to do at Torre Abbey?
It is the area’s most historic building and is set within 18 acres of garden and parkland. Their impressive art collection boasts over 600 works of art from the 18th century through to the present day. The museum galleries use state-of-the-art technology to tell the abbey’s fascinating story through videos, talking portraits and interactive displays.
Based over four floors your visit starts by exploring the Medieval Undercrofts. You will then visit the gallery and explore its various art and museum exhibits. After take some time to explore their gardens with romantic ruins and their palm and cacti houses.
They want children to enjoy their visit. There are interactive displays, dressing-up areas and an area called The Hidden House for them to explore. Plus free, activity sheets, regular treasure hunts and other workshops.
