Ulster Folk Museum
Museum Overview
The Ulster Folk Museum is located in Cultra near Holywood, County Down. They celebrate and preserve the everyday skills, traditions and customs that were passed down through many generations in Ulster. The museum first opened in 1964 and it is a remarkable living museum. It is home to a collection of heritage buildings and objects which are used to demonstrate skills and traditions. They also run a range of events.
Their talented team run daily demonstrations plus there are visitor guides and first-person interpreters. Not all demonstrations will be on every day but they have a minimum of three each day. Demonstrations can include blacksmithing, basket weaving, linen weaving and wool weaving. Plus printing, carpentry, needlework, leatherwork, food demonstrations and traditional baking.
There is also a transport display that includes all aspects of transport from donkey carts to a large selection of trains and railway buildings plus a collection of buses, cars and vintage motorbikes.
