University of Bristol Botanic Garden

The University of Bristol Botanic Garden is located in the Stoke Bishop area of Bristol. The garden has moved to its current site after previously being at two other sites in the city. It is run and owned by the University of Bristol.

They cultivate around 4,500 plant species from over 200 plant families within the five-acre site. There are glasshouses with a great variety of cacti and some super huge water lilies which grow when the weather is warm. Special collections include an Evolutionary Dell with what were the dinosaurs’ favourite plants and there are some rare South West native and threatened plants. There are also Chinese and Western medical herb gardens and a Mediterranean collection.

They also hold a number of annual events, including science picnics, music, art and sculpture events. Private day, evening and weekend guided tours can be arranged for groups.

The Garden is largely accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters with a designated path leading around the Garden and glasshouses. Disabled toilet facilities are available on site.
