Ushaw Historic House is located near Durham in County Durham. It is a former Catholic seminary and is now a heritage and cultural tourist attraction. The old college is known for its Georgian and Victorian Gothic architecture and its listed nineteenth-century chapels.

What is there to do at Ushaw Historic House?

The first stone of the college was laid in 1804 and over the years it expanded with great ambition into a fully self-sustaining community of around 500 acres. The main house and associated buildings are accessible to all. They are home to their permanent exhibitions, art and a world-renowned library.

You can take a guided tour or wander freely through the corridors, chapels and cloisters. Children can collect clues, solve mysteries and unravel their treasures on their learning trails.

The gardens feature woodland trails and wide-open spaces. There is inspirational art to be found, wildlife carvings and fun family-friendly activities. Plus they often host live theatre, music and dance events, including regular family-friendly outdoor events.
