Wakefield Museum is a local history museum located in the centre of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. It covers the city’s history and local area from prehistoric times onwards.
The museum has been in its current home of the Wakefield One civic building since 2013 although the museum was first opened elsewhere in 1955. Exhibitions look at the Tudor period and the Manor of Wakefield. HM Prison Wakefield and the West Yorkshire headquarters. Plus the Battle of Wakefield and more.
There is an intriguing collection of preserved animals, such as the deadly caiman which Waterton rode ashore in South America. This is displayed under the floor allowing a unique view of it. They also have touring exhibitions.
