Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway
The Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway is located in the county of Powys in Wales. It is a 2 ft 6 in narrow gauge heritage railway. The line is 8.5 miles long and runs westwards from the town of Welshpool via Castle Caereinion and on to the village of Llanfair Caereinion.
The train will take you through rolling landscapes within the Mid Wales countryside. The railway was originally built in 1903 to link farming communities with the market town of Welshpool. It was closed in 1956 but reopened about 10 years later by a group of enthusiasts.
They have one-hour train trips which are perfect for families. Or there are longer full-length two-hour trips. You can even travel first class in the 1960s luxury carriage. They also run a number of different services with food including breakfast, coffee, cake and more. The railway runs a number of special events throughout the year.
