Museum Overview

The Whipple Museum of the History of Science is located in the centre of Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. The museum covers the history of science and it is attached to the University of Cambridge. It was first founded in 1944 when Robert Whipple presented his collection of scientific instruments to the university.

Inside the museum, you can see an extensive collection of scientific instruments, apparatus, models, pictures, prints, photos, books and more all related to the history of science. The room now housing the main gallery of the museum was built in 1618. It was originally part of the first free, School in Cambridge.
