Wicken Fen Nature Reserve
Wicken Fen Nature Reserve is part of the National Trust and is located in Wicken near Ely, Cambridgeshire. It was the first nature reserve that the National Trust ever owned and today it is one of Europe’s most important wetlands that is home to over 9000 species.
What is there to do at Wicken Fen Nature Reserve?
From wildlife spotting to exploring on foot, bike or boat there is lots for families to do at Wicken Fen. They also host family-friendly events, such as mucky pups for pre-school kids who like to get mucky. You can hire bikes every day except Mondays and there is a wide range of bikes on offer.
The boat trips are on an open boat the Mayfly. The knowledgeable driver will share their knowledge of the history of the fen and help you to keep an eye out for the local wildlife.
From a quick stroll around the accessible boardwalk to a longer ramble there are plenty of different walks to enjoy. Their circular boardwalk trail takes around 50 minutes to complete. There are other longer walks listed on their website some include bird hides and you may even spot a free-roaming Konik pony.
