Wildheart Animal Sanctuary

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary is based on Sandown Beach, previously known as the Sandown Zoo and the Isle of Wight Zoo. It is a wildlife sanctuary inside the former Sandown Fort on the coastline of the Isle of Wight. It is now a charitable trust and its main focus is on big cats and Madagascan animals, such as lemurs.

What is there to do at Wildheart Animal Sanctuary?

Although it’s not a large zoo there is still plenty to see and do. The zoo runs a successful breeding programme that helps preserve some of the planet’s most endangered species. They have bred a number of at-risk animals, including the near-extinct Madagascan black and white ruffed lemur. The zoo is home to seven tigers including a white tiger plus four African lions and two jaguars.

There are lots of other animals, including even more lemurs, meerkats, wallabies, racoons and more. They also have some farm animals. The zoo runs regular talks on the animals, and there is a play area for the kids.

The zoo also offers special wildlife experiences with the opportunity to get closer to exotic wildlife such as a big car experience, junior keep for the day (age 8-16), lemur experience, lion or tiger feeding and they can also host your birthday party.
