Winkworth Arboretum

The Winkworth Arboretum is owned by the National Trust. The parkland has over 1,000 types of trees and shrubs that come alive with colour in autumn. It is also one of the best places in the country to see a beautiful display of bluebells. They look their best from around late April until early May.
What is there to do at Winkworth Arboretum?
The Arboretum was created by Dr Wilfred Fox in the early 20th century and is set in some 46 hectares. He was passionate about the arboretum and planned the planting of specific trees and shrubs to provide colour and texture to his beloved landscape. The landscape changes throughout the year with it looking at its best in Spring and Autumn.
For kids, there is a fabulous Tree adventure with tunnels, ropes and climbing frames made from nature’s materials. Walking through the woodland you will see some breathtaking views across hills and valleys plus some tranquil scenes around the lake and boathouse.
The National Trust website has a range of walks on offer including seasonal, walks across their varying paths. There’s a route for all abilities and it won’t be hard to find a nice spot for a picnic.
