Things to do at Wordsworth Grasmere

Today you can visit Wordsworth Grasmere and discover the story of this remarkable time in his life. The venue has seen a £6.5 million investment and is Cumbria’s newest ‘must-see’ attraction. You can explore Dove Cottage and step into another century. The sights, sounds and smells of his time there have been brought back to life. Moments from Wordsworth’s poems, journals and letters have been recreated, telling the story of their life here.

The garden orchard behind the cottage has been restored to resemble the ‘domestic slip on the mountain’ that he and his sister lovingly created. There is a woodland which is a wild space where you can play, explore and see nature.

Also on-site is a museum which tells the story of Wordsworth’s radical and creative life through a collection of items from his life. There are hands-on things to do for all ages including a working printing press and quill and ink writing. From the Viewing Station, you can take a moment to reflect and appreciate Grasmere Vale which he described as ‘paradise’.
