Wycombe Museum

Wycombe Museum

Museum Overview

This is a small museum in High Wycombe that has got an astonishing amount to do in it. It’s basically “just” a fairly large house and its grounds, but they have jam-packed it full of local history. You’ll find more chairs than in your average museum, but that’s because chairs were a big thing in High Wycombe. Don’t confuse this place with the nearby chair museum, they’re totally different places.

Even for the smallest kids, there is plenty to do. They have packed lots of hands-on stuff into some surprising places. There’s even an archaeological dig hidden in a draw! There’s a microscope set up so you can have a look at all kinds of things up close. There are dressing up costumes in several places around the museum, role-play areas and trails. This really is one of the most hands-on museums we’ve been to and I was surprised how good it was. Where else would you find out what a Bacon Badger is?

Outside there’s also a sensory garden, a little woodland and green space to play in. Before you leave, make sure you visit the cafe. As well as food and drinks there are also loads of board games you can play. It’s a nice meeting place even if you weren’t looking around the museum. Do be careful about parking though; it’s very limited.
