ZSL Whipsnade Zoo

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo is owned by the Zoological Society of London and is located in the Dunstable Downs of Bedfordshire. It has over 200 species of animals, many of which are endangered in the wild.

Things to do at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo

The site is enormous so make sure you take a buggy if you have little legs with you. It is split into two areas and you can drive between the two but it costs £12 extra to park and you will see more on foot including some wonderful views.

They have plenty of animals, including lemurs. penguins, bears, elephants, giraffes and lions. It is worth visiting some of these animals, during scheduled daily talks as you will find out about all the great work they are doing to conserve the animals, in the wild. They even have animals, such as wallabies and capybaras that are free, to roam the whole park.

There is a steam train ride around the animal enclosures which is an additional cost but takes you to see animals, through open paddocks. They also have daily shows such as Birds of the World where eagles, owls and macaws fly over your head. Other attractions include a children’s farm, a butterfly house, indoor soft play and an outdoor playground. They also have a newly opened aquarium. Experiences are also available.

There is a good choice of restaurants and cafes on-site selling hot and cold food and drinks. They also have outdoor picnic areas.

What are the ticket prices?

Make sure you book online in advance as you save 10% on your tickets. Ticket prices vary throughout the year but for an adult online range from £21.60 up to £29.25. Children under 3 are free.
