We have been eating at ASK Italian restaurant in Scarborough for a few years now. Although it’s a chain restaurant we like its location and we’ve always eaten well there. I’m not sure if you can tell from the photo below but it is right on the side of the harbour. Out of the windows, you can see boats and crab nets. There’s even the added benefit of outdoor seating for those warmer months.

ASK Italian is located on the lower seaside section of Scarborough. Many of the shops and restaurants are at the top of the hill but there’s also a good selection down near the harbour.

ASK Italian can be very busy especially in the evenings so booking in advance is recommended. We’ve never booked ourselves though as we tend to only eat there out of season.

There’s always a free lemon soft drink when you are seated which my son loves. He feels so special having one. The kid’s menu has activities for them to do but we rarely get given any pens so make sure you have one on you. The service has never been especially slow here though which is another reason why we visit.

My son learnt from somewhere to kiss his fingers and say Belissimo which is what he is doing in the photo below. The kid’s menu is £6.95 for a starter, main course, dessert and a Babyccino. The starter is vegetable sticks with soldiers and a dip.

We just love their pizzas as they are made to look like a happy face although my son insists it’s a bear. Kids can also choose their own pasta, or there are chicken goujons and dip and dunk pasta.

He did try the dip and dunk pasta once which he absolutely loved. I thought it was an odd concept, however, he thought it was the best thing ever.

There are four choices for dessert. There is a tip-and-top ice cream where they can choose from 3 different toppings. Plus a fruit ice lolly, fruit or a chocolate brownie. He usually opts for the chocolate brownie.

The main menu has a whopping 17 dishes to choose from on the starter menu. They have an excellent selection of vegan options. Starters include dough bites, garlic bread, chicken, vegan chicken, calamari and more. In the photo below there is the Burrata Caprese. It looks like an egg but is in fact a creamier than normal mozzarella. It was a really tasty dish I felt it just needed a bit of bread with it. I’d have it again though.

There are no prices online but most starters are around £7.

You can choose from 6 different smaller appetite pizzas. There are 2 different calzones and 5 different pizzas including vegan options, you can also make your own. The pizza pictured below is the Pollo E Pancetta with chicken, pancetta, mushrooms and mozzarella. Pizzas are a little over £10.

As well as pizzas they also have a good range of pasta dishes. With 16 different dishes to choose from you are truly spoilt for choice. The hardest thing for me is always choosing what to eat. Below is the King prawn and crayfish frilly tagliatelle. Again there are vegan options plus classics such as lasagne and bolognese.

They also have fish, salads and chicken dishes. Plus a choice of sides.

I am usually too full for dessert. I did try their baked chocolate gnocchi once though. They were nice and full of Nutella, a little odd in texture but I ate them all. They weren’t as heavy as I was expecting them to be. You can also choose from ice creams, brownies, cheesecake and more.

Sometimes I book us an evening swimming session at Alpamare after school and then we head to ASK afterwards for tea. It’s a massive treat for us as the two together aren’t cheap but it never disappoints. One thing to note is you can park for free in Scarborough from 6 pm.

There is sometimes street parking but there is also a small car park that is pay and display in the daytime that is almost over the road. We can always park here in the wintertime/most evenings.
