The pandemic certainly put some doubt into the renovation of the splash pad in East Park, Hull. We are pleased to say that it is now finished and it is excellent. Despite the cold, my son had a great time splashing about and the best thing about it is that it is HUGE! Like all splash pads in East Yorkshire, this only opens seasonally in the summer months.

£850,000 has been spent to renovate the splash pad at East Park and you can tell. It is really lovely. There are benches around the splash pad plus they’ve installed a new toilet block. The water smelt of chlorine which is always a good sign. It has had a state-of-the-art water filtration system fitted and if there is ever a problem with the water it will automatically switch everything off. My photos don’t show just how big the new splash pad is.

The first thing to note is that it is essential to prebook one of their three sessions a day. They do allow walk-in visitors but slots for this are very limited. It costs nothing to prebook, all you have to be is organised as the better weather days book up fast.

To book please follow this link, select to sign in or register a new account as a casual member. You can use the splash pad for 2.5 hours during your session.

We were really impressed by the number of staff at the splash pad. They were busy clearing away leaves and making sure everything was safe for the kids. The splash pad has gates that are manned so not everyone can just wander in. This is great for the safety of the children and I am sure they would also stop anyone watching that shouldn’t be.

There is a long central downward stream of water. At the top, there is a small shallow pool with water jets. This then leads down to the larger area for the water jets. These seem to come on at random intervals but they were rarely off. The splash pad has 43 water jets with a different mixture of play features.

They also offer a number of sessions for under 5’s and also a dedicated session for children with special educational needs.

If you are looking for additional things to do at East Park there is plenty to keep you busy. Please check out our post about other things to do at East Park, Hull. The splash pad was last open in 2013 so this great free facility has certainly been a long time coming. There have been a few teething problems where the splash pad had to shut so if this is your sole reason for visiting please do check ahead that everything will be operational.
