It doesn’t look like we are getting the summer of last year. Because of this, I think we could perhaps do with booking a summer holiday to France. Today I am bringing you 5 great reasons to holiday in France this summer. This includes some really great discounts at some family-friendly caravan parks.

We lived in France for 14 years and one thing that is really guaranteed is great weather. We lived in the North, lived in the Midwest and often holidayed in the South. I can confirm that we never had a bad summer with July and August being the best months.

1. Great Discounts on Family Holidays to Caravan Parks

The biggest and best reason of all to holiday in France this summer is some of the great discounts you can find right now. Siblu operates 19 holiday villages across France. They currently have discounts as high as 50% for the first week of summer.

That is a massive saving with some great Siblu special offers. Savings of up to 50% are available at Les Charmettes for the first week of the school holidays (from 27 July). Plus save up to 45% at other Siblu villages for the same week. All Siblu villages have life-guarded pool complexes, kids’ clubs, sports and evening entertainment included in the holiday price

2. Ease of travel

France is so easy to travel to in so many different ways. There’s no other country with so many choices available to the British tourist. We have tried all of them and each different method of travel suits different holidays and destinations. As a family, we love to take our own car with us.

Nothing beats the ease of being able to bring as much as we can fit into the car. Let’s face it when you are travelling with kids it can soon mount up. Our son isn’t the best traveller in the car but with plenty of lovely aire motorway stops and the general lack of traffic, it makes it easier for everyone.

You can take your own car via the Channel Tunnel or on a ferry. If you want a shorter ferry crossing I can recommend Dover to Calais. Or if you want to travel overnight and are heading more west in France then Portsmouth to Caen or Le Havre are good options. You can also take day crossings from Portsmouth. Our son has done and loved all, he was especially fascinated with the tunnel crossing.

France has a good number of airports serviced by budget airlines. We have found many bargains throughout the years even with flights at just £9.99. Hiring cars from airports is also a good option and deals can easily be found.

3. Great choice of destinations

The wonderful thing about France is just how diverse it is. You can one minute be in the beautiful rolling countryside, the next you could be by a beautiful blue sea. France has three coastlines with three different kinds of beach holidays.

The north has flatter more golden sand beaches, the west has some magnificent waves perfect for surfers especially at Biarritz and the south has lovely warm Mediterranean waters with long stretches of sand.

For beach destinations, we love Cap D’Agde in the south and Capbreton on the west coast. La Rochelle is a bit further north on the west coast. This is also a good base, especially for visiting the nearby ÃŽle de Ré. A lot of towns and villages also have wonderful harbours which usually mean tasty fresh fish and shellfish, which leads me to reason number 4.

4. Food!

One thing I really miss now we are living in the UK again is French food. It’s so fresh and a lot healthier than we are used to in Britain. Now I’m not going to recommend frog legs and snails to you and yes I have tried them. The French are very much into only using produce from their own country which means seasonal and very fresh dishes.

I can recommend Moules Mariniere (mussels in white wine), Crevettes (prawns), Tartiflette (potatoes, cheese and bacon) and Soupe à l’oignon (onion soup with croutons and cheese). Now I feel hungry. French ice cream is also always well worth trying and is a popular dessert in France.

5. Things to do

The best thing about France is its beaches, even in summer, you can easily find a quiet spot somewhere. Or if you are looking for beaches with plenty to do these are also easy to find, especially on the south coast. We love the stretches of bars and restaurants that a lot of beach resorts have. A lot of them have cool air sprayers which make sitting outside in the summer even more pleasant.

Our favourite day out in France usually involves a zoo. The French are very much into conservation and creating comfortable and happy environments for their animals. A lot of caravan parks in the north-west are just a short drive from Puy Du Fou.

This is our favourite theme park in France. There are actually no rides and instead, you can see the most amazing shows such as the Roman Colosseum re-enactment, Viking battles and medieval displays.

France also boasts some of the world’s prettiest towns and villages. We love driving around in the summer as you can expect to see fields and fields of sunflowers.

I hope you are feeling inspired to find a holiday caravan park in France to suit you and your family this summer.
