Just before Christmas, I asked my son if there was anything he still wanted to do this year. Luckily for me, he asked for a themed afternoon tea. I’d had Cupcakes 2 Love in Doncaster, South Yorkshire on my to-do list so I booked us in as pre-booking is essential. Sadly we got snowed in and although I’d already paid she happily moved our reservation to the next weekend.
Cupcakes 2 Love specialises in themed afternoon teas. They serve afternoon teas daily and they can cater for larger parties including children’s birthday parties. The best thing about their themed afternoon teas is the choice as they are fantastic. The hardest part will be deciding which one to go for. They also offer classic afternoon tea plus boxed options.
Here is a selection of themed afternoon teas on offer
• Alice in Wonderland
• Baby Shower -please specify colour)
• Beauty and the Beast
• Birthday theme.
• Dinosaurs
• Fairies
• Fortnite
• Friends
• Frozen
• Harry Potter
• How to Train your Dragon
• Lego
• Mickey and Minnie
• Peter Rabbit
• Peppa pig
• Pokemon
• Princess
• Starwars
• Toy Story
Plus if there’s a theme you’d like that you can’t see, you can ask them if it’s possible to create! There’s also many more on the list. After some deliberation, I chose the Pokemon-themed afternoon tea.
When we arrived we were welcomed into the cafe which is more like a room with a bar. It’s so pretty. There are so many lovely decorations. We were made to feel really welcome and at ease with the lady in charge.
On our table, there were some large Pokemon soft toys which my son was over the moon about. There was another table set out for a Toy Story and Lego-themed afternoon tea and they also had props on the table.
We were then given a choice of drinks which even included a soft drink which is perfect for kids (and me!). Just before the afternoon tea was brought in they had the Pokemon theme tune playing which really added to the anticipation.
Oh my gosh, what a selection. We had three tiers full of cakes, sandwiches, pastries and more. This was all just for 3 people and no, we didn’t eat it all. But yes we got to take it home with us,
They had clearly gone to lots of effort with the theming. The sandwiches were made to look like Pokeballs and even some of the cakes looked like Pokeballs. Under the sandwiches, there was a salad, crisps, sausage rolls, quiche and more.
Also hidden there was a scone each with jam and cream. There were things in jars and cakes on top. They’d even made the Oreo cookies look like Pokeballs.
He’s already said he wants to return and choose the theme next time. Obviously, he loved the Pokemon theme but he can’t wait to try something else.
As we were meeting my Mum there we also wanted to do something nearby. We paid a visit to the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum (formerly Doncaster Museum and Gallery) which is just a short walk away. We only spent about 45 minutes looking around but it was nice to stretch our legs and it’s an interesting museum.
